Free Bark Jr - Bark for Schools! Bark Jr allows parents to manage screen time, filter which websites their kids can visit, and keep up with kids by using location check-in. It's just another way that Bark is closing the gap in online safety for kids while allowing them the space they need to develop into good digital citizens.

The School District of Newberry County will begin collecting Consent Forms to Opt Out of Face Mask Requirement Imposed on Students by a School or School District on Friday, May 14. The form must be completed in its entirety and should be returned to the school between Friday, May 14 and Friday, May 21. Once approved by the school, this form allows students to go mask-free in the school building. Face coverings will continue to be required on all school buses. Students who exhibit any symptoms and visit the health room will be issued a mask. Parents are reminded to continue to check your students for any symptoms prior to sending them to school and inform the school nurse if your child is symptomatic. Plexiglass and social distancing measures will remain in place. As students come for state testing that begins on May 17, please be aware that there may be students with and without masks in the classrooms where testing occurs. Parents can access the form at https://scdhec.gov/sites/default/files/Library/D-4286.pdf

Well Visit and Vaccine Reminders to School Aged Children Dreaming of a return to in-person schooling for your children or a summer family vacation? Things are looking better for 2021. The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines is encouraging and will save lives. Vaccination has never been more important to protect our families and communities. Now is the time to get your children caught up on routine immunizations they may have missed during the pandemic or are due for this year. It’s time to call your pediatrician or family doctor’s office to schedule a yearly checkup for your child. In 2020, it was “stay home to stay safe”. In 2021, clinics are safe, sanitized and socially distant. Medical offices have taken protective measures to make sure that visits can happen safely, including: • Scheduling sick visits and well-child visits during different times of the day • Asking patients to remain outside until it’s time for their appointment to reduce the number of people in waiting rooms • Offering sick visits and well-child visits in different locations A safer return to school means vaccinating your child/children this spring with all recommended vaccines. Preteens especially need to receive their recommended vaccines. Children ages 9-12 are due for four vaccines to protect against diphtheria, HPV-related cancers, meningitis, tetanus, and whooping cough. Call to schedule a well child appointment today. Principal Appreciation Day was Saturday. We are so thankful to have Mrs. Westwood as our principal. She is caring, hardworking, and puts so much energy into keeping us motivated. Many of us ask, "Do you think she drinks lots of coffee or just energy drinks?!?" But, we really know it's just because she is passionate about her job! No matter how tired or busy she is, she is there for us and encourages us. Thank you Mrs. Westwood!

MCMS PARENT OPINION SURVEY: Complete by May 28, 2021. The survey is available online here: https://ed.sc.gov/surveys/parent-survey/ Previously, the Parent Opinion Surveys were in paper format but they are now online. Since the survey is now online, families of all students in grades K-12 can complete one survey for each of their children attending public school. There is no need to limit which parents take the survey. For families without Internet, MCMS will provide access to a computer to allow those families to take the survey. The Parent Opinion Survey is required under Section 59-18-900 of the Education Accountability Act and the Education Oversight Committee uses results from the survey in their reporting for Section 59-28-190 of the Parental Involvement in Their Children’s Education Act. Please contact the school if you have any questions.
